Nepal has sent its first batch of fresh vegetables to Qatar as part of an agricultural promotion programme backed by the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD). On Thursday evening, a refrigerated truck carrying packaged vegetables was presented at an export ceremony in Kathmandu before being flown to Qatar aboard a Himalaya Airlines flight.
The programme, which focuses on Dakshinkali municipality in Kathmandu district, aims to export 30 tons of fresh produce to Qatar within a month. The vegetables include green chilis, flat beans, and bitter gourds.
Mohan Basnet, mayor of Dakshinkali, expressed hope that the initiative would inspire farmers across Nepal. “Today’s event encourages our local farmers and shows the potential for national agricultural development,” he said.
Qatar’s Ambassador to Nepal, Mishal bin Mohammed Ali Al Ansari, highlighted that Nepali organic produce has been a staple in Qatar and expressed eagerness to strengthen agricultural ties between the two countries.
Wang Xin, charge d’affaires at the Chinese embassy in Nepal, reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s agricultural growth and economic development through initiatives like this.
This marks a significant step in boosting Nepal’s agricultural exports, showcasing the collaboration between Nepal, Qatar, and China.
