Air China is set to become the third Chinese airline to establish direct flight services to Saudi Arabia, a move that reflects the expanding air connectivity between China and West Asia. This new route is scheduled to begin in May, joining earlier initiatives by other Chinese carriers China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines.
According to Aviation Week, the carrier plans to introduce its first regular flights to the kingdom starting 6 May, operating three times per week between Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) and Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport (RUH).
The move is supported by the Saudi Air Connectivity Program, set up to enhance air connectivity and in this case, to make China one of the Kingdom’s top three source markets for tourists by 2030.
The addition of Air China to the Saudi Arabian market is part of a broader strategy by Chinese airlines to enhance their global network, particularly focusing on key international markets like Saudi Arabia. This expansion is not only indicative of the growing economic ties between Beijing and Riyadh but also aligns with the increased travel and trade demands between the two countries.
