In a strategic move to bolster its presence in West Asia and strengthen ties with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) has opened its first representative office in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This initiative marks a significant step in Seoul’s efforts to enter the Saudi market, which has shown promising growth in tourism from Saudi Arabia and the GCC region, reports Travel And Tour World (TTW).
Appointed as the marketing and PR representative for KTO in Saudi Arabia, Aviareps will lead efforts to promote South Korea as an ideal travel destination. With a network of 70 offices across 65 countries, Aviareps is well-positioned to highlight South Korea’s cultural, culinary, and cost-effective travel attractions.
The primary goals of this initiative include increasing the number of visitors from Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC region, boosting tourist spending, and encouraging longer stays. The Riyadh office will focus on educating travel agents, implementing marketing campaigns, and showcasing unique travel packages.
This establishment comes at an opportune time, following a strong rebound in foreign tourism to the East Asian country in 2023, which reached 63 percent of pre-COVID levels. The initiative is expected to enhance the visibility of South Korea as a premier travel destination for Saudi tourists, with South Korea already targeting West Asia for medical tourism.
Ju Lee, Executive Vice President of the International Tourism Division at KTO, emphasised the importance of this partnership, stating that South Korea offers a blend of premium travel experiences, unique shopping districts, and rich cultural and culinary experiences that appeal to Saudi travellers.
Glenn Johnston, Vice President Middle East & Global Public Affairs at Aviareps, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, noting that Korea is known for its cultural richness and vibrant K-culture. He expressed confidence in attracting Saudi travellers through targeted marketing strategies and PR campaigns focused on exclusivity, luxury, and premium experiences.
The opening of the Riyadh office is poised to foster stronger tourism links between South Korea and Saudi Arabia, promoting South Korea as a top travel destination, boosting the local economy, and enhancing the overall travel experience for Saudi tourists.
