Sohar University is set to launch an advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) Lab, aimed at fostering AI technology development and innovation in Oman, through a significant partnership with China. The collaboration involves the International Centre for Higher Education & Innovation (ICHEI) and the Southern University of Sciences and Technology (SUSTech) in China.
Dr Hamdan Al Fazari, Vice Chancellor of Sohar University, alongside representatives from the UNESCO office for GCC and Yemen, including Salah Khaled, Director of the regional office in Qatar, and Dr Anasse Bouhlal from the UNESCO office in Doha, visited ICHEI and SUSTech in Shenzhen, China, on 4 July. The Vice Chancellor’s visit underscores Sohar University’s commitment to leading in AI and technological innovation.
On 5 July, the delegation also visited the Education University of Hong Kong to discuss Green Campuses and Green Cities. This visit follows the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) with UNESCO in February 2024, focusing on Green Universities, Green Cities, and the Sustainable Development Goals, which are being implemented at Sohar University and the Al Batinah North region.
The partnership and recent visits reflect Sohar University’s strategic plan to enhance its global presence and reputation among esteemed international universities.
