Japan’s Special Envoy for Middle East Peace, Uemura Tsukasa, attended Jordan’s international conference “Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza” yesterday. Organised by Jordan, Egypt, and the UN at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Centre in the Dead Sea region, the conference aimed to enhance the international response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
According to Japan’s foreign ministry, the Japanese government has been actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to mitigate the situation in Palestine and improve humanitarian conditions in Gaza as a result of the occupation state’s ongoing aggression. Ambassador Uemura explained Tokyo’s efforts and exchanged views with other participants at the conference.
The event took place as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken prepared to visit Egypt and Israel to promote ceasefire efforts. It was held at the invitation of King Abdullah, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The conference focused on providing immediate assistance to over 2.3 million Palestinians facing severe hardship due to ongoing war, famine, and lack of essential services.
Separately, Japan’s Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko issued a statement welcoming the adoption of the UN Security Council Resolution 2735, which supports a new proposal for hostage release and a ceasefire.
“Japan will continue to actively and persistently make diplomatic efforts, such as reaching out to the countries concerned, from the perspective of what the most pragmatic approach is to improve the situation,” the statement said.
